Privacy
This policy covers the Awarenism app and this website. Awarenism is free, with no ads, and we never sell anything about you. Here is what we collect, where it is kept, for how long, and how to delete it.
Last updated 6 November 2026.
Without an account
Practice, Relax and Read work without an account. When the app first opens, Firebase Authentication, a Google service, gives your install a random ID. Our server keeps your Energy under that ID.
If you never sign up and don't open the app for 12 months, we delete that ID and its Energy.
Your account
You sign up with Google, or with Apple on iPhone. Firebase Authentication keeps your account ID and the email address Google or Apple shares. Our own database stores no email address.
When you sign up, you confirm that you are 16 or older. We don't keep your birth date.
Our database keeps your Energy, your Nickname if you choose one, your rank, and the day you agreed that everyone can read what you make Public.
What you share
Your Threads and comments are stored with the setting you chose: Only me, Me and Nomis, or Public. Anyone using the app can read a Public Thread. You can change who reads a Thread at any time.
We also store your Loves, Upvotes, reports and blocks.
When you share anonymously, people and Nomis see only a name made for that Thread. We store a code made from your account ID with a secret key, not the ID itself. So you are anonymous to people, but not untraceable: with our database and that key, we could find who wrote it. We would do that only to answer a legal request.
Checks on what you share
Before others can read a Thread or comment, our server checks it against a list of harmful words, and of words that may mean someone needs care. Threads you keep to Only me aren't checked.
If the check finds words that may mean someone needs care, it quietly tells reviewed Nomis, so one can reply with a kind comment. Nothing changes for you or your readers. Nomis see what other readers see, never your account.
Today this check runs on our server alone, and no text goes to another company. If we add an outside service, we will name it here first.
Usage counts
To make Awarenism better, the app sends counts: which pages and Practices open, the first time you take each step, how smoothly pages run, how the app last closed, including crashes, which requests failed, sound problems, and feedback choices. Each count also carries the app's version, platform and language, and roughly how long ago the app was first opened on the device.
Nothing in a count says who you are: no account, Nickname, Thread or comment, nothing you write, no device ID and no exact time. Our server adds the date and the country Cloudflare reports, and doesn't keep your IP address. For up to 7 days, our database's restore history could show which counts arrived together. After that, no two counts can be linked.
Counts are kept for 12 months, in a database apart from accounts. You can turn them off in Settings under Share usage counts, which also deletes counts not yet sent. We use no other crash reporting.
Checks that requests are genuine
To keep out fake requests, the app on Android and iPhone uses Firebase App Check, which asks Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest whether a request comes from our app. On the web, Cloudflare Turnstile does the same. These services handle device and browser signals under their own privacy policies.
Where it is kept
Accounts are kept by Firebase Authentication, which Google runs from data centres in the United States.
Everything else, including Energy, Nicknames, Threads, comments and usage counts, is kept in Cloudflare's databases, which we place in the Asia-Pacific region. Our server runs on Cloudflare's network, so your data may be handled outside your country.
Our database provider keeps a restore history for 7 days. If we add encrypted backups, we will keep them for at most 14 days.
Our server's logs hold no IP address, account ID or text. Cloudflare's security tools may record IP addresses for up to 31 days, under Cloudflare's own policy. This website runs no scripts and sets no cookies.
How long we keep it
Your account, Energy, Nickname, Threads and comments: until you delete your account.
An install that never signed up: 12 months after it was last used.
Usage counts: 12 months.
A note that the check held or hid a Thread or comment for a Nomi, with none of your words: 90 days, or until a Nomi has decided on it if that takes longer.
Database restore history: 7 days.
Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings, then Delete account. We delete your account, Energy, Nickname, rank, Threads and comments, including anonymous ones, and your Loves, Upvotes, reports and blocks, straight away. Your sign-in at Firebase is deleted at the same time, or the next night if Firebase can't be reached.
Copies in the restore history age out within 7 days, so everything is gone within 20 days.
If you can't open the app, email us from the address on your account, and we will delete it within 20 days.
No ads, nothing sold
Awarenism has no ads and no paid features, and uses no advertising or marketing tools. We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. Gifts go through Buy Me a Coffee, a separate site with its own policy.
Your choices
You can change who reads each Thread, turn usage counts off, and delete your account at any time. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email us.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top.
